Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Yoga

Healing Through Mindful Movement, Breath, and Body Awareness

Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Yoga is a holistic practice that combines mindful movement, breathwork, meditation, and body awareness to support emotional, mental, and physical well-being. Rooted in both traditional yoga principles and modern understandings of the nervous system, this approach creates a safe and supportive space for individuals to reconnect with their bodies, cultivate self-awareness, and promote healing.

Many experiences, including chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, and life transitions, can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and our bodies. Trauma-informed yoga recognizes that healing is not just a cognitive process. It also involves developing a sense of safety, trust, and connection within the body.

Unlike traditional yoga classes that may focus on performance or physical achievement, trauma-informed therapeutic yoga emphasizes choice, empowerment, self-compassion, and nervous system regulation. Every practice is adapted to meet you where you are, honoring your unique needs, experiences, and comfort level.

Benefits of Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Yoga

This practice may help individuals:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Increase mindfulness and self-awareness

  • Develop greater connection to the body

  • Improve sleep and relaxation

  • Reduce muscle tension and physical discomfort

  • Support trauma recovery and resilience

  • Enhance self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Strengthen coping skills for life's challenges

  • Foster a greater sense of balance and overall well-being

A Mind-Body Approach to Healing

Trauma often impacts both the mind and the body. While traditional talk therapy can help process thoughts, emotions, and experiences, therapeutic yoga offers an opportunity to explore healing through movement, breath, and physical awareness.

By learning to notice sensations, emotions, and bodily responses without judgment, individuals can develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their nervous systems. Over time, this increased awareness can support emotional resilience, improve self-regulation, and create a stronger sense of safety within oneself.

This approach can be particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Depression

  • Burnout and overwhelm

  • Life transitions and adjustment difficulties

  • Relationship challenges

  • Body image concerns

  • Sexual trauma recovery

  • Difficulties with self-esteem and self-worth

My Approach

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Sex Therapist, and yoga practitioner, I integrate therapeutic principles with mindfulness-based yoga practices to support whole-person wellness. Sessions may incorporate gentle movement, breathwork, grounding exercises, meditation, relaxation techniques, and nervous system regulation skills tailored to your individual goals.

My goal is to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where you can explore healing at your own pace while developing a deeper connection with yourself.

No prior yoga experience is necessary. Practices can be adapted for all experience levels, physical abilities, and comfort levels.

Healing begins with reconnecting to yourself. Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Yoga offers an opportunity to cultivate greater awareness, resilience, and well-being through the integration of mind, body, and breath.
