Tatiana Scharr offers specialized Problematic Sexual Behavior Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT) for children ages 7-12. This therapy is designed to address and manage inappropriate sexual behaviors that go beyond normal developmental curiosity and typical childhood exploration.
Children naturally exhibit curiosity about their bodies and sexual behaviors as part of their development. This can include behaviors such as touching their own genitals, asking questions about bodies, or playing doctor with peers. These actions are generally harmless and part of normal sexual development.
Problematic Sexual Behaviors are Distinct in Several Key Ways:
HOWEVER…
-
These behaviors are not typical for the child’s age or developmental stage. For example, a young child displaying explicit knowledge or actions that are unusual for their age may indicate exposure to inappropriate content or experiences.
-
Problematic behaviors may involve forcing, threatening, or intimidating others into sexual activities, which is not a part of normal curiosity.
-
Engaging in sexual behaviors in public settings or in front of others and having difficulty understanding or respecting boundaries and privacy differentiates problematic behaviors from typical curiosity.
-
Recurrent or compulsive sexual behaviors that are difficult to redirect and show an excessive preoccupation with sexual content or activities are clear indicators of problematic behaviors.
-
Problematic behaviors often involve interactions with children of significantly different ages or developmental stages, indicating a potential issue with power dynamics or understanding of consent.
* Examples of problematic sexual behaviors include frequent masturbation in inappropriate settings such as public places, engaging in explicit sexual acts with dolls or toys beyond age-appropriate curiosity, demonstrating an advanced understanding of sexual acts or language, inappropriately touching peers, siblings, or adults, and seeking out or being preoccupied with sexually explicit media.
